Good morals are weighty. But when you keep mingling with the wrong friends, you easily lose your good morals.
#006 do not conform to this world
God’s word helps us to live righteously. Add amonia to both two different cups of water. Unfortunately sometimes it’s really hard to see what’s on the inside, so we’ll add an indicator in one cup to help us see what the person is made of.
I’ve always loved dry ice, it looks like a lot of fun and I can add it to my life (clear cup) and see it made it more fun and “nothing” happened to my character. But if we are truthful and add the dry ice to the cup with the indicator. we see that as we conform to the world, thinking that it’s fun and nothing changes, we see that our basic character changes over time.
The sad thing is that over time, the fun dies out. All the fog and bubbling dies out and all you are left with is an altered life for the worse.
Deal with sin quickly
Sin keeps us from living life as we are suppose to (like this piece of note card separating the coin(s) from the glass). Instead of dealing with it quickly, we linger and don’t want to give up what we have.
Instead when temptations crop up and sin comes into our lives, we need to deal with it quickly and decisively (flick out the note card).
Working love through
When people gather together in a group, we are kind of like the glue that’s not very exciting. We might try different programs to get people to mingle with each other (add water).
But what if we add God’s love (add borax to water). We’ll add God’s love to the group. But it doesn’t do much if we are not interacting with each other.
But if we start working God’s love through the group. The the fundamental character of the group begins to change. We hold on to each other tighter and we become a very interating and active group that others enjoys interacting with.
After image
When we fix our eyes on something for a period of time, there’s an after image imprinted for a little while
Perhaps that’s why it’s important to fix our eyes on Jesus. Too often we just take a quick look at God and move on with life so there’s very little that actually stays with us.
What if we spend time to really focus on God each day. Perhaps then we will see Him in everything.
Make a difference
We as Christians are called to be the salt and light of the world. If we are letting God’s light shine, we should make a difference to the world around us.
Let’s take a look at this candle. If it’s not lit and we put the glass cup over it nothing happens. But if we light it, let’s see what happens when we put the glass over it. All of a suddent it made things nearby rise.
As Christians, we should make people and situations around us better. Maybe just to influence others be kinder to each other, swear less, help others more.
Filled with the Holy Spirit
Our hearts are like this balloon in the bottle. God wants to come into our lives but the sins in our lives separates us from Him. (try blowing).
But Jesus came and they nailed him to the cross for our sin. Put a nail in the bottle. If we believe in Jesus then He removes the sins from our lives so the Holy Spirit can come and fill our hearts and push out the sins in our lives. (fill balloon with water)
When God does fill our lives with Himself (tie off the balloon), other people also witness a miraclulous change in our lives.
Balancing act
Sometimes living as a Christian feel like a serious balancing act. There’s spending personal time with God, family, church, school, work, friends, activities where they should all somehow align with God. It’s like trying to balance so many things on a tiny edge.
It seem like God can be so demanding for us to do such difficult task. And sometimes I’m sure that he’s not even giving me a life line to help with keeping everything balanced. See I can even pass my hand (no strings).
But we forget that the real power that helps us to keep everything in balance comes from God. Should that power ever be removed, our lives would totally fall apart.
Sanctification
Our lives can sometimes feel like an oil spill. The muck gets everywhere and become difficult to clean.
But if we allow God’s Spirit, His word, and fellowship with other Christians fill our lives, it’s like having these oil spill polymers be sprinkled into our lives. The muck is slowly taken up and removed.
Another interesting thing is that God can still “repurpose” the muck and produce good from it (used as fuel for something else).
Loving others by first loving God
It can be really hard to do what is right and love others. But I think it’s often the case that we did not first light the flame inside us for God.
Just think how hard it would be to try to shove the hardboiled egg into the bottle. However, it you first light a fire inside the bottle, just like if we first set a fire for desiring God, then the egg simply gets sucked in. It’s very interesting that when we truly love and desire God, He does make loving others so much easier.
